March is half over!

What a warm week we had! 3 days of 70 degree weather and outdoor recess was wonderful. We got a glimpse of what the summer will be like. Next week will be a liitle cooler, but the days of snow and ice are hopefully done!

Conferences are coming up quickly. Today, you should have received a note from your child's teacher letting you know that you can sign up for conferences. Please don't miss this opportunity to talk about how your child is doing.

Next week, we have a shortened week. We do not have school on Friday as it is Eid-al-Fitr.

Tonight, we have our "We Are E. Green" Night. I look forward to maybe seeing you at the event.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

EG Student Council - Multiple Donations!

Our Student Council completed their CT Humane Society fundraiser. They collected toys, treats, brushes, and other pet friendly items. From the donations, they were able to create 24 care packages for our local pets.

On another note, the Student Council collected school supplies and dropped off 34 care packages for local students at Connectikids in Hartford. Congratulations to all of our Student Council members for your hard work and thank you to all those who were able to donate to these 2 worthwhile causes.

2026 Got Lunch Newington - Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2026 Got Lunch Newington fundraiser that we had last week. Our PJ donations raised $322. NPS raised a total of $3,195 between the 7 schools. This money will be used to pay for lunches of Newington students who need assistance. What a great job NPS did for this worthy cause!

March Students of the Month

Each month, teachers nominate a student of the month. This student displays attributes of being kind, setting a good example for others, and is an active participant in their learning. We compile all the nominees and the staff vote on our Outstanding Student of the Month who is honored at an awards' presentation at Town Hall with Dr. Brummett.

We also recognize students in our Kindergarten and Pre K. They are our Shining Stars. These are our youngest students who are learning all about the expectations of Elizabeth Green Elementary School. In their short time with us, they have done a fabulous job completing their work, being classroom leaders, and having an overall outstanding attitude.

Here are our Shining Stars:
Pre K - Charlie Doherty, Karter Higgins, and Rose Pellowski
Kindergarten - Isabella Costa, Nina Rivas, and Aston Allen

Here are our nominees and our Outstanding Student of the Month:
First Grade - Alanah Henry-Golding, Conor Scarlett, Valeria Roman, and Liam Chau
Second Grade - Hailey Mason, Landon Luszcak, and Anthony LaBranche
Third Grade - Hazel Joseph, Muhammad Umair, and Martin Miranda-Pagan

Officially recognized by the United Nations since 2012, this global day raises awareness, promotes inclusion, and advocates for the rights of people with Down syndrome. We will celebrate this day on Thursday, March 19. Please wear mismatched socks to show your support.

Recess

Reminder: Our goal is to get outside each day for recess. As long as it is not too wet or cold, we will be going our each day. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather. Coats are needed when it starts to get colder. Thanks.

Lost and Found

Once again, we will have a Lost and Found rack in the cafeteria and can be accessed by all students during their lunch wave. Please remind your child to check the rack if they come home without an item of clothing. If you have any questions, please email bfigueiredo@npsct.org.

Changes to your child's dismissal

You can make changes to your child's dismissal by clicking the More Links Tab in ParentSquare. Here is the direct dismissal link.

Cafeteria Information

Each morning, we offer breakfast to our students. If a student would like breakfast, they are able to walk to the cafe and pick up a grab-n-go breakfast bag. Breakfast is $2 in most cases. If you do not want your child to get breakfast because they are eating at home, please send a note to your child's teacher.

Universal free lunch is no longer available to all students. Families are encouraged to complete an application to determine eligibility for Free and/or Reduced Lunch. Applications can be completed on-line here. Otherwise, the cost for school lunch is $3.25 at the elementary level. Parents/Guardians may apply funds to your child’s account either online or by sending a check/cash. Checks should be made out to Newington School Cafeterias.

Classroom Snacks/Celebrations

All classrooms are peanut/tree nut free. A snack containing peanut/tree nut may not be eaten in the classroom. At lunch, the cafeteria has designated tables for students with peanut/tree nut allergies. Parents of children with these allergies may opt to have your child sit at this table/s. Birthdays may be acknowledged with non-food items such as stickers, pencils, or other non-food items. Food is not accepted for birthday celebrations.

EG is a Title 1 School

Our school receives federal funds through the Title I grant. These are supplemental funds, which means they are used to provide additional resources to support identified students in achieving academic success in reading and/or math. Teachers communicate with parents/guardians of students who receive reading or math intervention and share progress throughout the year.  We also collaborate with parents and families and seek feedback to improve services.

Parents/guardians also have the right to request information about your child’s teachers’ and paraprofessionals’ professional qualifications. All teachers at our school have been certified by the state of Connecticut as highly qualified. In addition, all staff members continue learning through professional development activities and are evaluated each year to make sure their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level. Furthermore, we will provide timely notice if a student has been assigned or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements.
