Wellness Policy--Triennial Assessment

Wellness Policy--Triennial Assessment

Newington Public Schools conducts a Triennial Wellness Policy Assessment every three years to evaluate the effectiveness of its School Wellness Policy and ensure compliance with federal requirements under 7 CFR 210.31.
This assessment reviews how well the district is implementing wellness practices related to nutrition, physical activity, and overall student well-being. It also compares the district’s policy with model wellness policies and identifies areas for continued improvement.

As a result of the district’s administrative review of the Child Nutrition Programs, the Board of Education revised the School Wellness Policy on February 25, 2026, to incorporate federally required provisions in accordance with 7 CFR 210.31.
The updates included:
• FR4: Nutrition guidelines for all foods and beverages available on campus during the school day that are consistent with federal standards.
• FR5: Guidelines for foods and beverages provided, but not sold, during the school day (e.g., classroom celebrations or rewards).
• FR12: Policies that address food and beverage marketing on the school campus during the school day.
• FR15: A plan for measuring implementation of the wellness policy, including designation of responsible district officials.
• FR16: Public involvement in the development, implementation, and review of the wellness policy.
• FR17: Public notification of the wellness policy and updates to the community.
• FR18: Periodic assessment of the policy and reporting on progress toward meeting wellness goals.
