January Students of the Month

Our staff selects students to be recognized as Students of the Month. These students are selected for a variety of reasons including but not limited to, their effort and/or improvement  in academics, behavior, or citizenship. Students are recognized in a meeting with the principal, have their pictures up on a bulletin board, and their names announced over the intercom. It is an honor students work hard for. The following students were selected as January’s Students of the Month: Pictured from top left Harper Swiatowiec, James Sullivan, Zuloria Eason, Ameiah Lim, Thea Darmofalski, Avery Duensing, Annabelle Calderone, Annaleece Couvertier, Quinn Tessier (Outstanding Student of the Month), Cole Ball, Cora Hadley, and Nico Cartiera.

Out of the selected students we have the difficult task of identifying an Outstanding Student of the Month. This student demonstrates all of the traits and qualities discussed above and has gone above and beyond to showcase his effort and growth. Our January Outstanding Student of the Month is Quinn Tessier. She will be recognized at a special meeting with the Superintendent, his family and me at the end of the month. Congratulations to all of our Students of the Month. We are proud.

Now Accepting Applications for Preschool

Newington Public Schools offers preschool opportunities, at all of our elementary schools, for three and four year old children. Our preschool program is designed to integrate children with special needs and children who are typically developing. Please click here for more information, or to apply for the 2026-27 school year.

2026-2027 Kindergarten Registration Information:

We are gearing up for the upcoming school year. We are in the process of gathering packets for students eligible for Kindergarten who will turn 5 on or before September 1, 2026. Anyone who is interested in their student starting Kindergarten who will turn 5 after September 1, 2026 please see the next section labeled Kindergarten Waiver 2026-2027.

Packets are anticipated to be mailed to families we have listed mid February. All registration is to be completed online.
A friendly reminder that if any incoming Kindergarten student attends a Newington Public Schools preschool program currently, they will not receive a Kindergarten packet as they will not need to register. They will begin to receive information for the upcoming school year over the summer.

Please make sure your friends or neighbors, who have students eligible for school next year, are aware that the information will be mailed in the next couple weeks. We encourage them to call our office at 860-666-4687 to confirm that their student is in our system, so they will receive the upcoming mailing.

Free Little Pantry

The Ruth Chaffee Free Little Pantry is an important resource that supports families within our school community. We are currently seeking parent and community volunteers to help keep the pantry stocked throughout the year.
Volunteers sign up for one week and visit the school once during that week, Monday–Friday, during designated times to avoid lunch waves. This is a flexible and meaningful way to support our students and families.
If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up using the link below:

Thank you for helping make our school community a caring and supportive place for all.
