Leveling Up Culturally Responsive and Engaging Pedagogy "With a Little Help from our Friends"

District Intended Outcome: That we maintain the high performance of students meeting and exceeding district standards/expectations, increase performance of students performing below district standards/expectations, and reduce the predictable performance gap between groups of students performing at or above standards/expectations and groups of students performing below standards/expectations.

Superintendent’s Message

Dear Parents, Guardians and Colleagues,

What an incredible start to the 2025-26 school year! We're thrilled to share immediate proof of your partnership: Anna Reynolds and Elizabeth Green Schools were just named Schools of Distinction! Equally impressive is the news that Newington High School is leading the state in rigorous AP/ECE course completion. These achievements are concrete evidence that we are making tremendous strides in closing our achievement gaps and ensuring all students have access to rigorous instruction across the district.

None of this success happens without you. Thank you for your continued, invaluable support of Newington Public Schools. If you’d like a detailed look at our shared accomplishments from last year and our progress on the 2024-27 Strategic Plan, you can find the recent Board presentation linked here.

We know there’s been significant discussion around middle school math programming, specifically the Bridge to Algebra Program. The Board of Education and my administrative team have worked with stakeholders to hear their concerns. We appreciate the community input and want to ensure clarity: Any Grade 7 student can enroll in the Bridge Program. The preliminary guidelines linked here Bridge to Algebra Program were shared only to help parents assess a student's likely success.

Most importantly, we are actively working on modifications to the middle school schedule to better support all learners with more dedicated time for acceleration and re-teaching as needed. These modifications are directly aligned with our Intended Outcome:

Intended Outcome: That we maintain the high performance of students meeting and exceeding district standards/expectations, increase performance of students performing below district standards/expectations, and reduce the predictable performance gap between groups of students performing at or above standards/expectations and groups of students performing below standards/expectations.

We have so much to be proud of in Newington Public Schools. I want to specifically thank our talented teachers and dedicated support staff for their commitment to our learners every single day. We look forward to continuing this vital partnership with all of our families. Thank you for being an essential part of the NPS success story!

Be Well,
Dr. Maureen Brummett, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools
