Department Mission

The Mission of the School Counseling Department is to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program that provides all students with the opportunity to gain an understanding of self and others in an environment that is safe, caring, and supportive, and prepares them to thrive in a changing society. This program aims to meet and assess the needs of all students in the areas of academic success, social/emotional development, and career exploration in order to help students reach their full potential.


Department Vision

The students of Newington Public Schools are life-long learners who graduate from our school system college, career, and citizenship ready. They are empowered to succeed in the rapidly changing 21st century global society. Every student has equitable access and fully participates in a high-quality academic curriculum and a comprehensive school counseling program through which every student’s developmental needs are met and their potential nurtured. In partnership with Newington families and stakeholders, 100% of Newington Public School students graduate prepared to access the rigor of college education without remediation. Our scholars are also prepared to achieve their future career goals by applying the employability and job readiness skills acquired and developed during high school. As productive citizens, all of our students engage in a continual process of self-directed personal growth and civic development. Within a rigorous, safe and supportive learning environment, our students strive to make a positive difference in our school and community as well as in the larger diverse global society.
