Important Update - October 22, 2020
Posted on 10/22/2020

Dear NPS Parents and Guardians,

In light of the continued upward trend of COVID cases in Newington as well as Hartford County, we will not be proceeding with our 4 day in person plan next week for fifth and sixth graders, nor seventh and eighth graders the following week. We will also be putting the high school 4 day in person plans for November on hold. There will be no immediate changes to our elementary model. Unless you contact your child’s school directly, we will assume you will keep your child in their current hybrid or full remote program at the secondary level.

While I am disappointed that we have to put our secondary reopen plans on hold, I am doing this after consultation with local health officials and in response to a consistent upward trend in COVID data in our community and county for the past several weeks.

As always, I will monitor the trends carefully and revisit the reopen plan at the secondary level if conditions improve. At that time, we will readminister parent surveys.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and patience during this incredibly challenging time.

Be Well,

Maureen Brummett, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools
