Wednesday Meal Pick-up (COVID)

Great news! We are happy to announce that USDA has extended free meals to all students.  Newington will be offering free breakfasts and free lunches to all students, at all schools, K-12, Monday through Friday (following the school calendar).  Free meals will begin on Monday, September 21st and run through December 31, 2020 or until funding runs out.  Families who choose not to participate in the free meals program, may still continue to send their child(ren) to school with lunch and/or snacks from home.

How will this work?

Elementary Schools, Cohort Blue & Gold, when In-Person Learning: Classroom teachers will ask in-person students if they will be eating a school lunch in the cafeteria that day and if they will be bringing bagged meals home with them for when they are not in school.  Bagged meals will be delivered to the classroom in insulated coolers to be distributed to students prior to dismissal.  For example, Cohort Blue Students can order and eat a hot lunch at school on Mondays and take home three breakfasts and two lunches for consumption when at home on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and breakfast for Thursdays.  When in-school on Thursdays, students can eat a hot lunch at school on Thursdays and take home two breakfasts and one lunch for consumption when at home on Fridays and breakfast for Mondays.  Cohort Gold Students can order and eat a hot lunch at school on Tuesdays and take home three breakfasts and two lunches for consumption when at home on Wednesdays and Thursdays and breakfast for Fridays. When in-school on Fridays, students can eat a hot lunch at school on Fridays and take home two breakfasts and one lunch for consumption when at home on Mondays and breakfast for Tuesdays.

High and Middle Schools, Cohort Blue & Gold, when In-Person Learning:  In-Person students will complete a Google Meal Form ordering a school lunch in the cafeteria for that day and/or ordering bagged meals for when they are not in school.  Students will pick-up the bagged meals in the cafeteria prior to dismissal. Schools that previously offered a breakfast option:  NHS and MKMS, will no longer offer breakfast before school beginning on Tuesday, September 22nd.
