Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

I hope you continue to weather these difficult times as well as can be expected. I wanted to update you on a few important items as we head into our April break next week.

School Calendar: As of this writing, I have not heard from the state as to any planned reopen date for schools. Currently we are closed through April 30. It is important to note that the reopening of schools is currently a decision in the hands of Governor Ned Lamont and  Commissioner of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona. As always, I will notify you as soon as I hear anything definitive. As stated previously, since we were able to get our online learning platform up and running quickly, we will still have our April break scheduled for April 13-17 as well as the Good Friday holiday on April 10. During these dates, there will be no online instruction from our teaching staff. The distance learning  program will resume on Monday, April 20.

Meal Service Program: We are so pleased to have been able to serve thousands of meals to our families during this crisis. In order to further reduce everyone’s exposure during this meal service, we will be going to a Monday/Thursday service model this week. Our next meal service will be Thursday, April 9, which will provide meals through the weekend. We will not be providing meals during the April break. Meal service will resume on Monday, April 20 and continue on a Monday/Thursday model only going forward. Meal service locations remain the same and are posted on our website.

Grading: Our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Kristen Freeman and Assistant Superintendent, Wendy Crouse have been working closely with principals and program leaders about grading during our online program. You will hear directly from your child’s principal about our grading protocols during this time.

Graduation: Many families and students have reached out about our ability to hold a formal graduation ceremony in light of the continued COVID shutdown. Rest assured, I am working closely with the NHS administration and we are monitoring the situation closely. We will reach out with more information as it becomes available.

Nursing Support: Nurse Supervisor, Mercy Hetherington, and your child’s school nurse are all available to you during our online learning program. I have linked a letter which explains how you can access and work with your school nurse regarding any health matters at this time.

Letter from Mercy Hetherington, Nurse Supervisor

I want to express my continuous gratitude for your efforts to support your child and our teachers during our distance learning program. It is truly a team effort. I hope you and your family are able to find some relaxation and “offline” enjoyment during our upcoming spring break.

We miss you all and wish you good health and well being,

Maureen Brummett, Ed.D

Superintendent of Schools
