Good Morning Parent and Guardians,

I am pleased to share with you the link (www.bit.ly/npsdistance) to our online platform that will be utilized by your child’s teachers as we begin our distance teaching and learning program tomorrow. Please take the time to explore the site thoroughly as it has a wealth of information designed to inform you about our new method of teaching.

By tomorrow, you will hear from your child’s teachers online. They have been working hard all week to ensure they can continue your child’s learning. Here is how you can help:

  1. Ensure that your child has a work station at home that includes a device and internet access (if he/she doesn’t have a device or internet access, please see the platform for additional guidance).

  2. Please check in with your child throughout the day to see if he/she is doing the work or is having any difficulties.

  3. While we have developed a robust online platform, it certainly is not the same as being with your child’s teacher in the classroom. Therefore, for the time being, we will not be grading any assessments. Rather, we are hoping to maintain your child’s skills through practice, reinforcement, and feedback. Based on the grade level, new learning may be introduced as appropriate.

  4. If your child left his/her device at school and you would like to retrieve it, please call the school to make an appointment for a safe retrieval process.

  5. If your child has an IEP or 504 plan, you will receive additional guidance from their case manager. We have also embedded a letter in this regard to the learning plan link.

During this very trying time, we must all work together to support the students of Newington Public Schools. I have been nothing short of amazed at how our instructional staff have worked tirelessly in order to support student learning using this new distance platform.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and teamwork.

Be well,

Maureen Brummett, Ed.D
