Kindergarten Registration for the 2018-2019 School Year

Eligibility: In order for your child to be eligible to attend Kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year, he/she is required to be 5 years-old on or before January 1, 2019. If your child is not yet of school age, but you intend for your child to attend Newington Public schools in the future, please contact your child’s prospective school to get on the mailing list to receive a Kindergarten Registration Packet when the time comes.

To register your child for Kindergarten, please review and follow the process below. All required documents must be completed and provided to your child’s new school and you must have your residency verified.

Step 1: Determine and Contact your Elementary School

If you have received a Kindergarten Registration Packet please continue to Step 2. Otherwise contact the school your child will attend to receive all required forms and information. Review the elementary school district map to find out what elementary school your child will attend based on your address or contact our Residency Office at (860) 666-5611 ext. 1131.

Step 2: Online Registration

Complete the online registration form. You will need to sign up with an active email account to use the online registration system. Be sure to save your account information in case you need to return. If you do not have online access, you may visit the Lucy Robbins Welles Library or make an appointment at our Residency Office. For questions regarding the online registration forms please contact our Residency Office at (860) 666-5611 ext. 1131.

Step 3: Residency Verification

Verification of a Newington address must occur before the registration process can continue. Please plan to attend the Residency Verification session at your prospective school. Parents/Guardians living with a Newington host (relative/friend) must make an appointment with the Residency Office to enroll new Kindergarten students. If you have any questions regarding Residency Verification or are unable to make the Residency Verification session at the school please contact our Residency Office at (860) 666-5611 extension 1131.

The following documents are required:

  • A copy of your child’s birth certificate (long form) or Passport

  • Mortgage agreement or mortgage payment book with address (if you own) OR current lease agreement, rent receipt, name of landlord and phone number (if you rent)

  • Parent/Legal Guardian Connecticut driver’s license or Photo ID with your name

  • AND a copy of two of the following items showing a Newington address:

    • Current utility bill (i.e., gas, electricity, phone, cable, car payment)

    • Auto insurance policy and current registration, if leased, payment booklet

    • Homeowner’s insurance policy with current address

    • Current and active bank/checking account with name/address
