Vaccine Clinic #1 - May 25 and 26

Vaccine Clinic #1 - May 25 and 26
Posted on 05/17/2021

Dear Staff, Parents, and Guardians,

It’s hard to believe that school will be out in a few weeks and that  plans are already underway for the 2021-22 school year. To that end, I wanted to alert everyone that Newington Public Schools will not be offering a remote learning option next year. The Connecticut State Department of Education is not mandating districts provide remote learning as they feel it is best for all students to be in school with their teachers and classmates. Prior to the start of the school year, I will communicate our Fall Reopen Plan that will include the mitigation strategies that will be in place. I will also let everyone know our plan for students who are quarantined due to a COVID exposure. I also want to thank you for your continued support and cooperation with all of our protocols. Your collective  efforts have kept our incidence rate among students and staff at less than 7% for the entire Pandemic.  Additionally, the vast majority of those cases are not related to any school based exposures.

I am also  pleased to announce that Beacon Prescriptions of  New Britain will host a drive-through vaccine clinic in Berlin this weekend. Following yesterday’s announcement that the FDA has approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12-15.  The clinic will provide an opportunity for families who wish to have their children vaccinated to do so close to home.

Thanks to the generosity and support of the Berlin Lions Club, the clinic will take place at the Berlin Fairgrounds, at 430 Beckley Road, on Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16, from 9:00 a.m-5:45 p.m. The clinic is open to anyone who wishes to be vaccinated, not just children ages 12 to 15. Drive ups without an appointment are also welcome, but please be aware that you may wait a bit longer.

There will also be a clinic for the second dose on June 5 and June 6. The appointment time that you select now will be the same appointment time for the second dose.

Here’s to  a successful end to the 2020-21 school year that has been extremely challenging, but we made it!

Be well,

Maureen Brummett, Ed.D
