Good Morning Staff, Parents, and Guardians,
Many of you have reached out to my office over the past few weeks to inquire about the district’s plan for safety protocols in the Fall, specifically mask wearing. As discussed in my communication on July 1, 2021, I had to post a draft Reopen Plan on our website by June 23, 2021 in order for NPS to be eligible for COVID Relief Grant Funds in excess of $3.1 million dollars. That draft plan (at the recommendation of the State Department of Education) did not change the protocols that were in place at the end of the school year pending further guidance.
Since that notification and posting, the CDC has issued back to school guidance. However, the Connecticut State Department of Education and the Department of Public Health have not yet issued guidance for school districts in our state.
In some of the inquiries I have received, families are under the impression that each district gets to determine their own safety protocols. As I currently understand it, this will be determined by the SDE and DPH and they will mandate what all school districts need to do.
As always as soon as any further information is available in this regard, I will update you immediately.
I hope you are enjoying the summer and I will be in touch soon.
Be Well,
Maureen Brummett, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools
