Important Update - Temporary Remote 11/22/2020
Posted on 11/20/2020

Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

It has been a challenging week here in NPS with a significant uptick in COVID cases that have resulted in several classes, students, and staff being quarantined. Additionally, as of yesterday evening, the positive cases in Newington as a community are some of the highest in the area. In my commitment to you to err on the side of caution, I am moving the district to a temporary remote learning platform effective Monday, November 23 through Friday, December 4. I will reassess conditions on Friday, December 4 to determine if this needs to be extended. During this time, please continue to report any positive cases in your family to your school nurse.

During this partial remote time frame, the following specialized programs will continue to run four (4) days per week in person. If your child is assigned to these programs, you should be hearing from the special education office, your child’s school, or NECCI directly with additional information:

  • PreK

  • K-4 Extension at E.Green

  • Mr. Tyler’s  Program at E. Green

  • Mrs. Michaud’s  Program at John Paterson

  • ESS Programs at Martin Kellogg and NHS

  • ABA Program at John Wallace

  • Self Contained Special Education Programs at NHS

  • The Transition Academy

  • NECCI PreK program (5 days / Wk)

All other programs will transition to a remote schedule as noted in this document: Remote Learning Plan

We will be offering access to meals during this time frame. Please read the information linked here regarding pick up and delivery options. School Provided Meals during Temporary Shutdown

I want to reiterate that our schools are very safe and that we have only seen one case of school based transmission(due to mask non compliance, which has been rectified). However, I want to allow everyone some time to reset after a very challenging week coupled with our high COVID rates in the Newington community.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance during this temporary transition.

Be Well,

Maureen Brummett, Ed.D

Superintendent of Schools
