Important Elementary Update

Important Elementary Update
Posted on 10/23/2020

Good Morning Elementary Parents and Guardians,

As you are aware, last evening I put the gradual reopen plan at the secondary level on hold due to an increase in COVID rates in Newington and Hartford County.

This has prompted questions about the model for the elementary level as they have recently expanded to a four day full reopen. I have consulted with our Health District Director, Charles Brown, School Nurse Supervisor, Mercy Hetherington, elementary administrators as well as considered the following elementary conditions:

  •  their ability to consistently cohort throughout the day

  •  the ongoing, successful implementation of our of mitigation strategies

  •  the need for young learners to have as much time with their teachers as possible

  •  the positive impact the full day model has had on students

At this time we will not make any changes to the elementary 4 day in person model. However, I will continue to monitor positivity rates closely as well as any cases at the elementary level to determine when/if their model should change.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Be Well,

Maureen Brummett, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools
